Privacy Statement

Iowa Workforce Development asks your cooperation to provide better customer service. We request that you provide us with your social security number and other personally identifiable information such as date of birth. Failure to provide this information will not affect any employment services you are entitled to.

Your social security number and other personal information may be used for purposes of developing statistical data to evaluate the effectiveness of workforce programs. Some of the data that we collect is used in the aggregate to allow us to better understand how our service is used. We do not disclose information or share other private information with outside parties without prior authorization from the individual and will not use this data for any commercial purpose. Job seeker information (including your social security number, address, work history, wage information, and unemployment insurance claim information) may be shared in the delivery of workforce programs with State of Iowa agencies and partners that have entered into agreements with Iowa Workforce Development regarding the provision of services and use of personal information. State and Federal laws protect the privacy of this information and those State of Iowa agencies and partners are required to safeguard and not further disclose this information.

Social Security Number

Providing your social security number is not mandatory to receive employment services. If you are a job seeker receiving Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits, using your social security number is the only way to track and notify UI that you are registered for employment (which is a requirement for receiving UI benefits). If you prefer to register without providing your social security number, please ask a staff person in the Workforce Center for assistance. If you are not in a Workforce Center, please contact a local Iowa Workforce Center for assistance.

Date of Birth

Providing your date of birth is not mandatory. Any combination of numbers that is a valid date in the format mm/dd/yyyy will be accepted.

For your protection, Employers using must adhere to the following:

  • They cannot charge a fee to provide a Job Seeker access to a job referral.
  • If a salary is specified for a Job Order, it must be at least minimum wage according to Department of Labor standards.
  • They cannot ask Job Seekers to purchase any materials or charge a fee as a requirement for being considered for a job opening.
  • They cannot use this service to recruit replacement workers in a labor dispute.
  • They cannot resell or repost resumes found on this site; such resale or reposting violates an individual's privacy.
  • They cannot list a job that requires a specific gender, minority, age, and/or religious preference unless it is a bona fide job requirement.

If you feel an employer has violated any of the above-mentioned policies, please contact a local Iowa Workforce Center for additional information.
